FAQs

  • VO2 Max is the maximum amount of oxygen your body can utilize during exercise. It’s a key indicator of cardiovascular fitness and can guide training to improve endurance and performance. It’s also the number one denominator in our health span and longevity so knowing this number and how to improve it really helps long term health outcomes.

  • A typical VO2 Master testing session takes about 60 minutes, including preparation and result review. The actual physical part of the test takes around 20 mins.

  • Absolutely not! Our testing is designed for anyone interested in improving their fitness, from beginners to seasoned professionals.

  • Avoid eating a large meal 2-3 hours before the test

    Refrain from intense exercise for 24 hours to ensure accurate results.

    Come in appropriate kit to perform the test

    We like to know of any health conditions that might affect testing prior

    For resting metabolic testing

    • Do not eat, exercise, or drink coffee or alcohol for 5 hours prior

    • Do not smoke 2 hours prior

    • Do not participate in vigorous or high-intensity weighttraining 12 hours prior

    • Arrive rested and relaxed

  • Comfortable workout clothing, appropriate shoes and a water bottle.

    If you have had testing before bring your previous reports if you want to see some comparisons. If it was with us we have these already on your profile.

  • We can test you with a running, cycling, rowing or incline walking protocol.

    To ensure accuracy with cycling testing give us a call before booking and we can make sure we get the best set up for you

  • The exercise intensity will gradually increase until we hit your maximum ability to sustain the given intensity. In short a VO2 Max test is hard but quite short.

    If you are not suitable for a max test the there are other protocol we could use to help test your fitness and guide your training.

  • If you don’t feel able to, ready to or we don’t feel its safe or wise to do a maximal test we can do a sub maximal test and then prescribe some advice from the metrics we get from that.

  • We use the VO2 master device. Check it out here .

  • We do our testing in the gym or spin room where our main office is inside Duston Sports Centre, Cotswold Avenue, Northampton, NN5 6EX.

    Home or club visit may be possible on request.

  • As the device is portable then potentially yes.

    If you are a club that want multiple testing then we can arrange a day to test at your facility.

    If you are an individual with your own indoor bike setup for example then we can do the testing on that setup too to ensure you get the most accuracy for your own devices and training.
